On my first day at ODC, I immediately felt the wholehearted enthusiasm of the students and teachers in every classroom. I volunteered at the school for 3 months, working as a teacher and teaching assistant in the afternoon and evening classes. The students at every age and every level were a joy to teach and their eagerness for learning English was infectious! This certainly comes from the positive learning environment that the staff and local volunteers have worked hard to create. The ODC team was so kind and welcoming and it was a pleasure to work with them. They even took me on cultural excursions and out for meals in local spots, giving me really special experiences which I would never have had otherwise. I will really cherish my memories at ODC and I highly recommend applying to volunteer at the school if you’re seeking a unique volunteering experience - you will quickly feel part of the ODC family just like I did!

Volunteering as an English teacher at Opening Doors Cambodia has been an incredible experience. I joined ODC to help students improve their English, but I gained so much more in return.

The students are truly inspiring — eager to learn, hardworking, and full of motivation. Teaching them has helped me become more patient, creative, and confident. I’ve improved not only as a teacher but also as a person.

The most rewarding part is seeing their progress and confidence grow. Their smiles and “thank you” make every lesson meaningful.

Before joining ODC Organization, I never imagined I would be a volunteer. Dealing with social anxiety made communicating with others feel like a huge challenge, and I didn't think volunteering was right for me. However, I decided to push myself to try something new, and it has been the best decision I’ve ever made.

Through this journey, I’ve learned so much about the educational system and effective teaching methods, which will be incredibly useful for my future career. More importantly, I’ve had the joy of helping students improve their English skills. While the beginning was hard and required a lot of effort and humility, I am now delighted with what I’ve achieved. Volunteering is a great opportunity to learn, grow, and overcome your fears.
